Pharmacy Storekeeper at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) – Katsina
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency aid in over 60 countries. MSF delivers medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, and exclusion from healthcare.
MSF is currently recruiting qualified candidates for the following position:
Job Title: Pharmacy Storekeeper
- Location: Katsina
- Employment Type: Contract
- Contract Type: Fixed Term
- Working Hours: 208 hours per month
Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Storekeeper will be responsible for executing pharmacy and medical warehouse storage activities. The role ensures that pharmacy stock is maintained at security levels and stored under optimal conditions, in collaboration with the logistics team and under the supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
Stock Management & Storage
- Supervise material orders and dispatches to ensure rational use of resources.
- Receive and verify orders, checking for discrepancies with cargo manifests.
- Maintain proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity) for all medical supplies.
- Keep stock records updated using stock cards and software.
- Conduct regular inventories, including Emergency Preparedness (EPREP) stock checks.
- Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, and potential stock shortages.
- Ensure proper separation and identification of quarantined, expired, or on-hold items.
Order Processing & Dispatching
- Prepare orders for various hospital departments and ensure proper packaging.
- Report anomalies or consumption pattern changes to the Pharmacy Supervisor.
- Notify the Pharmacy Supervisor when stock reaches alert levels.
- Ensure compliance with MSF’s cold chain protocols during transportation.
Warehouse Security & Hygiene
- Control access to the pharmacy store and ensure all exits are secured.
- Report any security issues such as break-ins, theft, or damage.
- Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy store in collaboration with logistics staff.
- Ensure refrigeration equipment is properly maintained.
Pharmaceutical Compliance & Reporting
- Handle controlled and expired drugs according to MSF protocols.
- Immediately report any cold chain breaches during storage or transport.
- Monitor temperature logs and ensure suitable storage for all pharmaceutical items.
- Submit weekly reports on stock movements for entry into Isystock.
- Ensure First Aid kits, Emergency Boxes, and expat house medical supplies are replenished as scheduled.
Other Duties
- Assist the Pharmacy Supervisor in managing daily workers.
- Participate in physical inventories.
- Ensure pharmacy access is limited to authorized personnel only.
- Carry out other related tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
Education:
- Essential: Pharmacy Technical Diploma.
- Desirable: Additional studies in Pharmacy or Medical-related fields.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience with MSF or other NGOs is desirable.
Languages:
- Essential: Hausa and English
- Desirable: Proficiency in the mission language
Skills & Competencies:
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet)
- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage stress effectively
- Commitment to MSF principles
- Results and quality orientation
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary: According to MSF salary scale
- Additional Benefit: 13th-month allowance equivalent to one month of gross salary
