MAIN PURPOSE
Provide care to ITFC, including ER/ICU/IPD patients and/or ATFC medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients’/beneficiaries’ health conditions.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevent illnesses.
Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment while respecting MSF protocols.
Keep the patient and/or their family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, ensuring they have understood.
Follow up on the evolution of hospitalized/ITFC patients through daily visits, consultations, and examinations.
Prescribe necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments in collaboration with other doctors, and inform their family about the patient’s evolution.
Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under their responsibility.
Ensure the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of medical materials while maintaining compliance with hygiene standards.
Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity, and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any complications of the patient's illness, medical errors, or issues with department, equipment, or material.
Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
Ensure all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented. Check that universal precautions are always followed, reducing bio-hazard risks, and improving infection control while maintaining professional confidentiality.
Manage the team under their direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising performance, organizing, and scheduling shifts and rotations, and participating in emergencies and on-call duties when necessary.
Provide quality medical care to patients following MSF guidelines and protocols, applying them in the examination of patients, diagnosis, paraclinical examination, prescription of medications, and follow-up of patients in both emergency and inpatient departments (ICU, ICU-Stepdown, Phase 1, transition, and isolation).
Apply IPC protocols in all patient management procedures in the hospital.
Actively participate in managing emergency cases in the ER and wards, discussing difficult cases with the MD team, pediatricians, or line managers when necessary.
Ensure at least 90% compliance of drug prescriptions with established diagnoses. Rationalize the prescription of antibiotics to avoid unnecessary side effects and reduce antibiotic resistance.
Ensure investigation results are followed up in a timely manner.
Ensure the quality of care delivered to patients improves over time within the service.
Follows the referral procedure, adhering to MSF referral guidelines, and validating all referrals with the medical activity manager.
Participate in the morning medical meeting and ensure handover is done before leaving the service.
Participate in regular quality of care meetings for such improvement (e.g. MMR presentation/theoretical training every week).
Participate in the training of MDs on health-related issues.
Participate in the development of reforms in working strategies.
Ensure TCE is followed, especially in terms of commitment to work, punctuality, and other HR-related policies that guide MDs’ responsibility in the workplace.
Any other context-specific duties as may be assigned by the direct-line manager from time to time.
Requirements Section:
Education: Degree in Medicine, desirably in Tropical Medicine.
Experience: Minimum 2-year experience as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training).
Desirable experience in: Tropical medicine Post-registration experience in Public Health, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, General Practice, General Medicine, or Minor Surgery.
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel).
Languages: Hausa and English are essential; Mission language is desirable.

Remuneration:
According to MSF salary scale plus a 13th-month allowance equivalent to one month of gross salary.
