Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. MSF provides emergency medical assistance to populations in distress, including victims of natural or man-made disasters, and armed conflicts—without discrimination based on race, religion, or politics.
MSF-OCA has operated in Nigeria since February 1996 under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Vacancy Details
Position: Liaison Officer
Project: Sokoto Noma & Emergency Response Project
Duty Station: Sokoto
Contract Type: Indefinite
Reports To: Project Coordinator Support (with potential to act in their absence)
Main Purpose of the Role
The Liaison Officer serves as a bridge between MSF and local communities, facilitating communication, improving understanding, and encouraging inclusive participation. You’ll also support context analysis, community assessments, and help in strategy adaptation for effective project implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain trust-based relationships with community members
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and discussions to engage the community
- Translate project documents and communication materials into local languages
- Deliver key messages in culturally sensitive ways
- Assist in context analysis and monitor social dynamics
- Act on behalf of the Project Coordinator Support when needed
- Participate in project monitoring and evaluation activities
- Help document case studies and success stories from the field
- Share community voices and ensure inclusive participation
- Promote understanding of socio-cultural differences and adapt strategies accordingly
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, History, or related field.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience in community engagement roles (MSF or similar NGOs preferred).
Languages:
- Fluency in English, Hausa, and Fulfulde is essential.
Skills:
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet)
- Flexibility, stress management, teamwork, and commitment to MSF values
